Because of its resolution (just a few eV for the WDS) and its sensibility, the EPMA’s capabilities complement those of scanning electron microscopes. The EPMA enables its user to determine the precise composition of a sample, and the homogeneity of the distribution of its elements, thus making it possible to create better materials with improved properties.
