Maintaining a high level of training for student engineers requires that the school’s instruction incorporate the latest research and technology developments. This in turn requires that the school’s laboratories are equipped with a competitive infrastructure. Consequently, since several years, ENSCL has developed an especially active research policy in the basic research and applied science areas.
This development has been carried out in close cooperation and with the support of Lille’s Science and Technology University (l’Université des Sciences et Technologies de Lille) based on the two institutions’ close relations.
The scientific quality of the work carried out in four of the School’s research teams is governed by its status as an associate unit to the CNRS or a combined unit of the CNRS. Each of these teams maintains productive relations with the industrial sector and the scientific community (both on a public and private level nationally) by filing patents and publishing a substantial number of articles each year in internationally read journals.

The laboratories associated with Chimie-Lille have extensive experience working with companies, which has resulted in several patents.
The researchers and Research Teams are able to resolve manufacturing problems that fall within their field of expertise.
Consequently, whether it involves catalysis, chemistry of solids, organic chemistry, polymers, metallurgy, surface treatments and analyses or fireproofing materials, Chimie-Lille researchers do their utmost to provide solutions to industrial requests.
